MEDx Frequently Asked Questions - Other Issues

Q: How would I get my Z-scores to be reported on the Colorbar for a fused image generated from Render Statistics?

First, you will need to calculate the scaling and offset between the intensity range of your fused image and the range of the statistics. If you used Render Stats to make the fused image then the intensity range will be from 0 to 555 with the Z-score values between 255 and 555.

The Z-score range specified in the Render Stats dialog box then maps to 255 to 555. The calculation of the the Intensity Scale and Offset are as follows:

Scale = (Zmax - Zmin) / (555 - 255)
Offset = (255 * -Scale) + Zmin

Once you have determined these values, you need to enter them into the Image Properties dialog box (these fields are located in the lower right hand corner).

Next, turn on the colorbar - Colorbar Control from the Display menu. Click on the Show Colorbar option and the Show Labels option then click on the Apply button. Now, click on the "Use Intensity Gain/Offset & Units from Header" option and then the Apply button. At this point the colorbar labels will be in Z-score units. If you do not see this option please refer to the following FAQ.

You can restrict the range that the color is displayed by changing the "Colorbar Minimum-Maximum" from "From Image/Volume" to "User Specified". Minimum and Maximum fields to the right of these options will become ungrayed out.

Enter the image intensity that corresponds to the minimum Z-score as the Minimum and likewise for the Maximum. For the example above you would set the Minimum to 255 and the Maximum to 555.

After making this change you will need to click on the Apply button in the colorbar dialog box.
