MEDx Frequently Asked Questions - DICOM

Q: I am interested to use some DICOM tools so that I may quickly, and by convenient manual (visual) inspection, determine from tool results what kinds of DICOM images these are, which of the images are related to which others, etc. Are there such DICOM tools in MEDx?

We recommend the DICOM Manager tool in MEDx for a goal like this. This tool is very suitable for quickly, and by convenient manual (visual) inspection, determining the DICOM characteristics of a collection of images and presenting these to the user. Simply first place all of the images under a common "top" directory, then set your DICOM Manager directory to it, bring up DICOM Manager, and finally press the update button.

The tool will quickly examine the headers of all images and will present the results in the browser in a hierarchical data base manner for convenient manual (visual) inspection. If you are interested to use ImageScript or Tcl to access the hierarchical DICOM information shown in the DICOM Manager, please see the script AccessDICOMManager.tcl located in the MEDx tcl directory.

Note: If you were already using the DICOM Manager prior to trying this inspection task, for managing other data sets, it is worthwhile to note that using the DICOM Manager for a quick task like this is possible and easy, because going back to your original DICOM Manager content will require only an easy switch back to that original DICOM Manager directory afterwards.
